Month End Review - November 2013

Month End Review - November 2013As always I like to recap on the past month’s posts, going on’s, and general happenings. This is usually a quick review of where I felt I succeeded and sometimes failed during the prior month.

I feel this is important to share because every sales persons has successes and failures. We have good months and bad months, we exceed quota then miss it, and we always hope, next quarter is better than the last. No matter how good it was.

November was month where I felt I had to work extra hard to get in my groove. I felt I was losing focus, motivation, and determination. This happens every once in a while and although I hate it while it’s happening I value the results that often happen.

It’s an opportunity for me to re-evaluate where I’m at and where I want to go. Obviously with a baby on the way, who will require more help then the norm, there is a lot to consider. And what I consider more risk.

But that is no excuse for moving my professional career forward. As long as I don’t go too far on the risk scale, there’s no reason to make some changes in my life.

Check out the What’s New below to find out what I am doing to stay competitive now.

Also, if you missed any of the posts from November be sure to check them out below.

November 2013

I think the Dr. Seuss quotes was my favorite. That guy was a genius. And I am excited to read him to my son.

Whats New?

The change I decided to make has to do with my prospecting method. I am adamant that prospecting is an absolute necessity for every sales person. And although I have used my method for over a decade I feel there is always room for improvement.

This is why I have signed up for a course on Social Selling. Specifically the course offered by Kurt Shaver of The Sales Foundry: Social Selling Boot Camp: 30 Day Self Study program.

I am not one who often buys online courses. Specifically because they are often a load of crap. So in this instance I did my best to do research on the product.

  • Does it offer information on what I am looking for?
  • Are there actionable steps I can take so I know I am learning something?
  • Is the risk (cost) mitigated by the reward?
  • Do I believe in the product offering?

For all these answers it was a yes. So I decided to take the plunge to try and basically re-invent my prospecting method.

I very well may have wasted my money. There’s a possibility of that I suppose. But the way I think about it; if through the actions I take as a result of his course, I get ONE new client. It pays for it’s self many times over.

If you’re not familiar with Social Selling I highly recommend you check The Sales Foundry or if you want, a simple Google search for “Social Selling” will give you a better idea of what I’m talking about. I’ll be listing my favorite resources for Social Selling in a future post.

I plan to make this a major topic in the month of December. I hope you’ll join me on this journey.

If you do then keep in mind why I am doing this; and see if it is something you should replicate.
